5 Quick And Easy Tips for Successful Employee Training

Employees can only perform at their best when they are properly trained.  Here are 5 quick and easy tips you can use today to ensure that your employee training sessions are successful and impactful.

Keep Content Relevant

Ensure that the training is relevant to the employees.  This does not mean it has be directly related to their current position, but it should benefit them in some way and allow them to increase their current skills.  Don’t be afraid to ask them what kind of training they believe will be most beneficial.

Use a Variety Teaching Methods

Incorporate different teaching methods and techniques.  Using a variety of teaching methods is often best.  Consider online training, classroom learning, hands on learning, and even role based/role playing activities.  Group activities and projects can also be a great tool.

Ensure Proper Tracking

Track and Measure your results.  Test your staff before, during and after the lesson to ensure they have successfully learned the material.  Review items as needed to ensure comprehension.  If your staff is not grasping the material consider alternative teaching methods.  Also, look to measure performance of each employee before they received the training as well as post training.  For instance, if your staff all attended a class entitled "Providing Excellent Customer Service" but customer complaints continue to rise you may want to examine that course.  Also, don't forget to track what training sessions your team has attended.

Focus Training on One Subject

Keep your training sessions focused.  Your team will pick up better on things if it is taught in focused sessions.  Forcing unrelated information all at once can lead to confusion, boredom, and lack of success.  This will also allow your staff time to put into practice what they have learned.

Have Fun!

Have fun!!! You should strive to involve your team in learning as much as possible.  The instructor/facilitator should be asking lots of questions and guiding conversations in a productive direction.  Keep things fun and your team will enjoy learning new skills and become even better team members.
